The Disability Discrimination Act requires all service providers to provide reasonable access for the disabled to their premises. All employers are also required to provide suitable facilities for any disabled employee. A disability under the terms of the Act is very broadly defined and includes poor eyesight, deafness and physical impairments. Provision of reasonable access depends on a variety of factors including the practical aspects of the site and the potential cost of any alterations. It may not be necessary to carry out alterations immediately as these can be planned for future improvement or redecoration works.
The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations require all persons responsible for instructing maintenance work to prepare and update a record of any possible Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) at their property.
The person responsible also has to ensure that any maintenance contractors are advised of any ACMs and suitable precautions that should be taken to reduce the risk of asbestos release.
We can undertake Type 1 (presumptive) surveys to locate any ACMs and arrange for suitable specialists to take samples, if required, to confirm the presence of Asbestos or otherwise.
We can also advise on suitable precautions to be taken depending on the possible risk of release including encapsulation or removal by specialists if necessary.
